USDC Issuer Circle Says Govt’s Twitter Giveaway Supply Was Rip-off

Stablecoin USDC’s issuer Circle stated its chief technique officer’s Twitter account was hacked on Wednesday, after the account posted a hyperlink showing to supply holders of the stablecoin USDC a “one-time bonus” of free cryptocurrency.

The Twitter account of Dante Disparte, Circle’s chief technique officer, despatched a collection of tweets showing to deal with the stablecoin’s latest transfer away from its greenback peg.

One of many tweets — which is not seen — stated that Circle “will probably be distributing a one-time bonus of USDC to all present holders”.

“This bonus is our manner of thanking you to your continued help and belief in USDC,” the tweet stated.

That web site contained a hyperlink which prompted customers to “get USDC” by inputting the data for his or her crypto wallets.

A spokesperson for Circle informed Reuters that Disparte’s account had been hacked. Circle’s official Twitter account stated that Disparte’s account had been “taken over by a scammer”.

“Any hyperlink to presents are scams. We’re investigating the state of affairs and taking motion accordingly,” Circle’s tweet stated.
